Dr. Gláucio Diré Feliciano holds a degree in Biological Sciences from the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ/ Brazil), a master's degree in Human and Experimental Biology (Morphological Sciences) from the University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ/ Brazil) and a PhD in Biology (area of concentration in Nuclear Biosciences) by the University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ/ Brazil). He concluded his postdoctoral fellowship in Experimental Pathology at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ/Brazil). He is currently a research professor in the area of Neuropharmacology and Neurochemistry at the Foundation University State University of the West Zone (UEZO/ Rio de Janeiro/ Brazil), where he is responsible for the research line entitled "Study of the biological effects of natural products with investigative interest in Brazil's unique health system. ", which is developed in the Laboratory of Chemical and Biological Analysis-LAQB (UEZO/ Rio de Janeiro/ Brazil). He is also a Full Professor III at Estácio de Sá University (UNESA/ Rio de Janeiro/ Brazil). He is a Fellow of the American Association for Science and Technology.

Neuropharmacology and Neurochemistry

Edward Muntean is professor at the Department of Food Sciences within the Faculty of Food Science and Technology, University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine Cluj Napoca, Romania, teaching Analytical Chemistry and Inorganic Chemistry for undergraduate students, Advanced Techniques of Food Analysis and Chemical Risk Analysis for Master students. He undertakes coordinated research contracts (he has managed six independent research projects), being also involved in the activity of many professional societies. His studies include a B.Sc. in Organic Chemical Engineering (Babes-Bolyai University, Cluj Napoca), postgraduate studies in Applied Informatics and Programming (Technical University Cluj Napoca), a M.Sc. in Biochemistry and Biotechnology of Plant Pigments (University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine Cluj Napoca) and a PhD in Chemistry (Babes-Bolyai University, Cluj Napoca). He published eleven books focusing on analytical and inorganic chemistry and more than 100 papers in scientific journals. Since 2010, Edward has been working as a scientific editor, being member of editorial and advisory boards of several international journals. In the past years, he was concerned mostly in the chemistry and biochemistry of carotenoids - analytical strategies, biochemical researches and applications in food industry. Presently, his research focuses on applications of high-performance liquid chromatography and ion chromatography in detecting emerging food and medicinal plants’ contamination

Sobhy El Sohaimy is presently working as Head of Department of Food Technology at City Of Scientific Research and Technological Applications. He is Chairman of the Committee of Grievances and Complaints at City Of Scientific Research and Technological Applications. Dr. K. Pani Prasad is result oriented with 24 years of experience as a Professor, researcher, scientist, extension and administration worker in areas of aquatic animal health especially in areas of development and use of disease diagnostics and control. More than 100 research publications in peer-reviewed national and international journals with high impact factor. Presently working on projects as Principal Investigators: Aquatic disease surveillance project funded by NFDB, GOI; Networking project on Fish Health funded by ICAR, New Delhi; Development of nanotechnology-based diagnostic kit for detection of Betanoda virus in fish funded by CIFE, Mumbai; Network project on AMR with special reference to aquaculture and fisheries.

Dr. Prakash Kondekar has completed MD (Homoeo) in 1964, BSc (Hons) LLB Doctor of Naturopathy, 1992, Ayurved Ratna FRSH (London) Bowtech (UK). He has been Hon Director-Indian Institute of Naturopathy since 1996. He has published 30 papers-in-medical journals. Visiting Faculty, Mumbai University. Andrew Cannavan is Head of the Food and Environmental Protection Laboratory (FEPL) of the United Nations’ Joint Food and Agriculture Organization/International Atomic Energy Agency (FAO/IAEA) Division on Nuclear Techniques in Food and Agriculture Andrew has more than 25 years’ experience working in food safety. He joined IAEA in 2001 and in his current post is involved in the development of analytical methods for food safety and quality, applied research to underpin international guidelines and standards, training and technology transfer to IAEA and FAO member countries, and coordination and technical management of international research and capacity building projects in food safety and authenticity. He has authored/co-authored more than 50 papers in the peer-reviewed scientific literature and more than 80 conference proceedings papers and reports, contributed to 9 books and published numerous UN reports and articles. He has chaired or participated in advisory boards and scientific committees for a number of major institutes, conferences and symposia. Andrew is a graduate in Applied Physics and Chemistry and an Honours (1st Class) graduate in Biological Sciences from the University of Ulster, UK. He completed his Ph.D. thesis at Queen’s University, Belfast, UK in 1999, and is a Fellow of the Institute of Food Science and Technology.

Food safety and Quality

Chen Situ is a Lecturer in Food Safety and Therapeutics of Queen’s University Belfast and Queen’s University is a member of the 24 Russell Group Universities in the UK. Trained as a medical doctor, Dr Situ obtained her PhD in Medicine at Queen’s University and has since specialized in development of immunodiagnostics for screening and rapid detection of chemical contaminants, therapeutic drug residues and hormones in foods and biological samples utilizing both conventional and emerging technological platforms such as biosensor, proteomics and nanotechnology. After actively participating and playing major roles in a series of EU Framework Programme projects (FP4 – FP6), Dr Situ recently coordinated an EU funded (> €1M) PF7 international collaborative research project (2009-2013) with partners from Belgium, France and UK. Over the years, Dr Situ has strengthened ties with industrial sectors of diagnostic and food through joint research and commercialization activities to transfer basic research into marketable technologies and end-products.

The other area of Situ’s research focuses on exploring natural products for their potential applications in human health, animal health and welfare, to address the ever-increasing concerns over food safety and security, public health in relation to the development and emergence of antibiotic resistance due to extensive use of antimicrobials in human and veterinary medicine, as well as in agricultural food production. Situ’s research has been supported by the governments of the EU, China, UK, as well as the industry. Strong international links have also been developed through collaborative research and education with leading universities and research institutes in the USA, EU and China.

Beate Kettlitz After finishing her studies of food chemistry at Humboldt University in Berlin, in 1975, Beate Kettlitz worked at the Hygiene Inspection Services in Potsdam and was there in charge of foodstuffs. These tasks mainly included operative services - such as control of food producing facilities, stores, kitchens, producing meals for hospitals, school's and other facilities, to check for good hygiene practices and to give advice. After the successful achievement of a special professional certificate in the field of hygiene practice in 1978, she continued her professional engagement in the Regional Hygiene Institute of Potsdam. She became responsible for the control and professional advice for dairy products, dietetic products, baby food and other foodstuffs as field and later department manager. After her arrival in Brussels in 1991 she worked as an adviser on technical regulatory aspects for the food industry. As of May 1999, Beate Kettlitz started her professional carrier as a food policy adviser at BEUC,which lasted until April 2005. In April 2005 Beate Kettlitz jointed FoodDrinkEurope (former CIAA) as a Director for Food Safety, Science and R&D.
